Conduct Roller Operations


Course Overview

This course covers the principles of road construction and the techniques required that produce an acceptable industry standard. Road roller operators will have knowledge of correct road construction methods and standards in the application to which the operator is expected to work such as:


  • Machine and general safety

  • Road construction terminology

  • Parts of the road

  • Identifying soil types

  • Compaction and density

  • Pre-start inspection

  • Start-up and shut-down procedures

  • Operating procedures

  • Basic road roller positions

  • Consolidating materials



Participants will be assessed in accordance with the following nationally recognised units of competency as part of the qualification RII30815 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations RIIMPO317E Conduct roller operations. Assessment methods are of a written, theory and practical observation.


Course Outcomes 

On successful completion of this training course, candidates will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.


Language, Literacy and Numeracy 

This training program requires reading, writing and numeracy skills. Prior to enrolling please contact Gladstone Job Skills to discuss our support services we can assist you with.


Dress Code - Protective Clothing

Long sleeve hi-visibility shirt (or long sleeve shirt with a hi-visibility vest), long pants, steel cap safety boots, hard hat (optional), safety glasses (optional).


Materials Provided

Course Training Manual and support material.


Course Duration

2 x 8 hour days for up to 6 persons per course.

Follow the signs to classrooms.



  • Participants must be 18 years of age.

  • Identification such as QLD drivers license, 18+card or birth certificate will be required.


Anyone found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be asked to leave the course.
