Intermediate Scaffolding Operations

Training Content

This unit of competency covers the functions required to erect intermediate scaffolding to meet the minimum training and assessment standards for the purposes of certification.

Training in this unit involves planning and preparing work, erecting scaffolding and equipment, inspecting, repairing and altering scaffolding and equipment and dismantling scaffolding and equipment.

On completion of this course, participants will know:

  • All basic scaffolding
  • Tube & coupler scaffold
  • Gantries
  • Cantilevered crane loading platforms
  • Barrow ramps and sloping platforms
  • Scaffold associated with perimeter safety screens and shutters
  • Mast climbers

The aim of this course is to provide the participant with adequate knowledge to successfully complete the assessments required prior to application for a prescribed occupation licence to perform intermediate Scaffolding Operations.

Training and Assessment Process
Formal Training

Trainees will need to attend initial training for 32- 40hrs. This course will be delivered face to face with practical demonstration involving course participants.

During formal training, the participant will also undertake written theory assessments (100% pass rate is required).

Final Practical Assessment

Once the applicant has logged 120 hours in the logbook (hours must be verified by the trainer/assessor) or provided appropriate evidence of the completion of these hours, then the participant can undertake a practical assessment.

The assessment is typically conducted over a nominal 4 hours. On successful completion of assessment, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment, an assessment summary 1 form and an application F1 form for lodgement with Australia Post to apply for a photo ID Licence to perform Basic Scaffolding operations.

Materials provided

Course training manual and support material, log book and training plan.

Protective Clothing

Steel cap work boots and appropriate clothing is required for the duration of the course.

Duration

This course will be conducted over 3 days each day being of eight hour duration for up to 8 persons.

Location and start time

Course starting time is 8.00am; at the Gladstone TAFE College on Derby Street South Gladstone.

Please be waiting in the canteen area by 7.45am where a Gladstone Job Skills trainer will meet you.

Pre-requisite
  • Participants must be 18 years of age or over.
  • Identification such as QLD Driver Licence, 18+card or Birth Certificate will be required.

Anyone found to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be asked to leave the course.
